Local News Roundup: Reaction To Donald Trump's Election; Other NC Election Results; CMS Magnet Vote

North Carolina voters played a big role in the outcome of the presidential race, but the governor’s race is still too close to call.  Our panel of reporters will look at that, and at some of the other shakeups and outcomes in state-based races.  Also, CMS takes a vote on the magnet school lottery, and the Hornets are off to a flying start.

It was a surprising conclusion to an unprecedented presidential campaign. North Carolina went “red” on Tuesday, helping Republican candidate Donald Trump become President-Elect Trump. We discuss the election, the response here and around the country, and the statements by President Obama and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, urging their supporters to give Mr. Trump a chance.

The race for governor in North Carolina isn’t so clear- that contest has not been finalized, with incumbent Republican Governor Pat McCrory about 5,000 votes behind Democrat Roy Cooper. As we wait for a recount and for absentee and provisional ballots to be counted in this tight gubernatorial race, we’ll talk about how the gubernatorial candidates did in Mecklenburg County(where McCrory's supporters seem to have diminished since 2012), and discuss other key state level races and their outcomes.

In non-election related news, the CMS board voted on the new magnet lottery. The board was unanimous in its support for the new magnet plan. We'll go over the details of the plan, which prioritizes seating based on a socioeconomic status calculation.

In local sports, the Panthers got a win, and the Hornets have their best ever franchise start- what’s behind this strong beginning to the seaon?  Those stories and  more on the Charlotte Talks Local News Roundup.
