When I first moved here, there was one billboard that I found really confusing. It was for the new '49ers football team at UNC Charlotte. 

The only 49ers I know of are 3,000 miles away … in San Francisco.

Dancing Out True Tales Of Murder

Not all love stories have a happy ending. Consider one of the most famous ballets of all time, Swan Lake. The story ends with two lovers drowning themselves when they can’t be together.

But then again, that is fiction. A dance performance this weekend portrays true stories from our region. We already know how these relationships end: with murder in the first degree.

City, UNCC Team Up For A Lesson In Data

Statistics, used incorrectly, can give the wrong impression, as Mark Twain made clear when he said, “There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.”

And there’s a wealth of publicly available statistics about Charlotte that can be used or misused. So, on Tuesday, UNC Charlotte’s Urban Institute, the Federal Reserve of Richmond, and the city and county held Charlotte Data Day.

Critic Of Charter Schools Speaks At UNCC

A prominent critic of charter schools, standardized testing, and private influence on education spoke at UNC Charlotte Wednesday evening. UNCC paid Diane Ravitch $20,000 to appear at the campus’ McKnight Auditorium in front of about 100 teachers, students, and community activists.

49ers Move On After Wild Rally Against Richmond

NEW YORK Trailing Richmond by three points with 4.7 seconds remaining in the first round of the Atlantic 10 tournament Thursday, the Charlotte 49ers needed something unlikely to happen.

“Unlikely” is what happened, but that doesn’t begin to describe it.

The 49ers took advantage of three late technical fouls against the Spiders and some deadeye free-throw shooting from point guard Pierria Henry. They scored eight points in those final seconds and came away with a 68-63 victory at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
