The Charlotte City Council on Monday approved a $700,000 contract to develop a master plan for the Discovery Place Science Museum.  Jenkins-Peer Architects will study how to modernize and expand the 36-year-old museum on North Tryon Street.

Foundation for the Carolinas

The long-awaited renovation of the Carolina Theatre in uptown Charlotte is scheduled to begin in May. That's according to the Foundation for the Carolinas, which owns the property. The foundation also announced Tuesday it has investors lined up for a luxury hotel to be built above the theater.

In an effort to keep the city's tourism economy competitive, Charlotte City Council is considering major upgrades to the Charlotte Convention Center that would cost taxpayers approximately $100 million.

The Plan To Spur Development In Northern Uptown

The big players in Charlotte’s development presented their new plan for the northern end of uptown Thursday night. The North Tryon plan has been a year and a half in the making, with big business, local government, the arts and charitable organizations all playing a role.
