The Effects Of Our Stormy Summer

We have experienced record amounts of rainfall in our region this summer. So much so that city, county and state government agencies of all kinds have had to mobilize, perhaps like never before, to deal with the impact of all of this rain. Some businesses benefit from the rain but many others are suffering under the relentless storms we've experienced. We have gathered a large panel of representatives from a number of the agencies that have dealt with the challenges these storms have presented and they will share the story of our record rainy summer, when Charlotte Talks.

How Weather Changed History

Many people feel a little bit down on rainy days but find that they are smiling and happy when the sun shines. Kids get excited when it might snow and we all watch thunderstorms anxiously, but weather can have a much larger and more critical influence on our lives. Throughout history, major events have been shaped by the weather conditions. The outcome of major battles, famous discoveries and critical dates in our history have been impacted by storms or extreme temperature conditions. We'll look at some of the most famous moments in history and how weather played a role.

Extreme Weather Breaks Dozens Of Records In Carolinas

In the Carolinas, 2012 was a record-breaking year for extreme weather.

That's according to the National Resources Defense Council, a nonprofit organization that broke down government climate data by state and county. The result is a map of high temperatures, big snowfalls and large wildfires that senior scientist Kim Knowlton said demonstrates what climate change looks like.
