Lawmakers in North Carolina have long loved to (politically) party with the gerrymander. And both major parties are guilty of twisting districts to help keep themselves in power. With the latest rounds of court ordered redistricting officially now underway, we dig into what the new maps may look like. And Candidate ME talks with Democratic State Senator Jeff Jackson about how he hopes to use the maps to break Republican supermajorities at the General Assembly.

The Rev. William Barber, president of the North Carolina NAACP, held a fiery press conference Thursday morning during which he condemned two recent laws that dilute the power of the incoming governor, and in retaliation, called for possible legal action and for the National NAACP to approve an economic boycott of the state.

"It's not just about robbing a candidate or a governor," he said, "it's about robbing the people of their power."

Jeff Jackson Replaces Clodfelter In The State Senate

Democratic Party leaders gathered at the Little Rock AME Zion Church in Charlotte on Saturday to elect the newest state senator: Jeff Jackson.

Jackson will replace Dan Clodfelter, who resigned from his state senate seat on April 8 to become mayor of Charlotte.
