The Premiere Of The Charlotte Symphony's Plazacast

The Charlotte Symphony will premiere a free outdoor plazacast during its KnightSounds Series concert, A Night In New York.

Friday and Saturday the Charlotte Symphony is trying something new. The symphony will perform its KnightSounds Series concert, A Night In New York inside the Knight Theater but also for the public outside.

A Trifling Place, Episode #17: Charlotte's Public Art

The Firebird mosaic statue by French sculptor Niki De Sainte Phalle (1930-2002), sits on South Tryon Street in uptown. The piece was installed at the entrance to the The Bechtler Museum November of 2009.

Firebird Patrol

One of the most popular Uptown photo ops during the DNC will be the Firebird, the tall, mirrored glass sculpture standing outside the Bechtler Museum. 

That kind of publicity is priceless, but the museum knows the exposure could also attract vandals. And it has taken measures to try to prevent that.

Cathie Burns is the collections management assistant at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. She’s got her normal day-to-day tasks…

“Taking light levels and humidity levels in the galleries, pest management, temperature, things like that,” she says.
