Police say they have no suspects in a fatal shooting Tuesday night in southeast Charlotte. CMPD officers were called to east Independence Boulevard near Wallace Road around 7:20 p.m., where they found a 25-year-old man dead of gunshot wounds in a vehicle.

CMPD says it’s conducting a homicide investigation after officers found a deceased man with an apparent gunshot wound in a vehicle at the intersection of Fugate Avenue and Monroe Road last night.

Charlotte’s homicide rate has been on the rise and in the news throughout this year. So far, there have been 54.

We hear about a homicide after it’s happened. But for victim’s family members, they are notified as soon as possible and often times arrive at the scene. It can be difficult and confusing as they try to process what just happened and what next steps need to be taken after a sudden loss.  A group of volunteers in Charlotte is trying to ease that burden and they are exceptionally qualified as each one of them has lost someone to homicide.

CMPD says two people were killed early Thursday in north Charlotte. Police also reported that the victim of a Monday night shooting died in the hospital on Wednesday. The three deaths bring the number of homicides this year in Charlotte to 53. That compares to 32 at this time last year.

There have been 49 murders in Charlotte in 2017 – more than double the amount compared to this time last year.

In this story, WFAE’s Sarah Delia takes us to an area in North Charlotte where there have been 10 murders this year. She shadowed police officers as they patrolled by car and by foot, and spoke to residents they came across.

This year we’ve been tracking the rising number of homicides in Charlotte—so far there have been 47. Today, we take look back at a murder from 2016 that remains unsolved. Twenty-six-year-old Ketie Jones was shot and killed on October 15 when she was walking home after a night out with friends in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood.

With no leads on her case, it’s been a difficult time as her friends and family members reel from the randomness of her murder. Instead of letting that grief consume them, Ketie’s loved ones have come together to create a scholarship at UNC Charlotte in her memory. WFAE’s Sarah Delia sat down with one of Ketie’s best friends, to talk about her life and how he chooses to remember her.

Police in Charlotte are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday night on the city's northwest side.  It's the 47th homicide in Charlotte so far this year, compared to 23 killings as this time last year.

CMPD says officers responded to a 911 call shortly after 10:30 p.m. at the Tropical Bar, Restaurant and Game Room at 4709 Tuckaseegee Road.  Inside the business, police found an adult male who'd been shot.
