Broadway Honors 'The Lost Colony' With Tony

One of the longest-running outdoor dramas in the country, The Lost Colony, has won a Tony Honor for excellence in theatre. It's a first for North Carolina. This summer, the show enters its 76th season in Manteo, which is part of the Outer Banks.

Carolina Theatre's Fate Still Up In The Air

The full City Council will vote to decide who will renovate the Carolina Theatre on December 17th.

The non-profit Foundation for the Carolinas won the first round of the bid for the Carolina Theatre this week—for $1. A city council committee chose that bid from the Foundation instead of a half million dollar offer from the company that developed the NC Music Factory. But, it's far from a done deal.

The Carolina Theatre sits on Sixth and Tryon, and once upon a time, it hosted megastars like Elvis, Bob Hope, and Frank Sinatra. For the past thirty years it’s lain unused and neglected. But now the theater, and its first-class location, has three serious suitors.

Council Committee Chooses $1 Over $500,000 For Carolina Theatre

The Carolina Theatre in uptown Charlotte has sat vacant for more than 30 years.

But in its heyday, stars like Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra played there. 

City council members are considering plans to renew the theater to its old glory.  They got a step closer yesterday to choosing one. The Council’s Economic Development Committee voted 3-2 to support selling the property for $1 to the Foundation for the Carolinas.

Charlotte Considers Proposals For Carolina Theatre

The Charlotte Economic Development Committee is planning a trip to the theater. Committee members decided Thursday they need to go see the historic Carolina Theatre - and just how rundown it's become - to help them decide between two proposals to renovate it.

The Carolina Theatre used to be an old, Southern gem. Now, it’s just an old, empty building in a key spot uptown.
