Patrick Cannon Sentenced To 44 Months In Federal Prison

Cannon was released on bond after his sentencing hearing. He was represented by attorneys Henderson Hill and James Ferguson.

This morning, Patrick Cannon walked into the Federal Courthouse Uptown and was sentenced to 44 months in prison and ordered to pay more than $50,000 in restitution and a $10,000 fine. The former Charlotte mayor pleaded guilty earlier this year to taking more than $50,000 in bribes from undercover FBI agents. WFAE’s Tom Bullock was in the courtroom.

On Wednesday morning, Patrick Cannon was Mayor of Charlotte and a rising political figure in the state. Less than 24 hours later he’s out on bond, no longer in government, and facing a host of federal charges. The story of his fall is one of undercover cops, multi-million dollar investments, bugged apartments, and feminine hygiene products. WFAE’s Ben Bradford and Tom Bullock bring us this report.
