NC Legislature

Craft brewers lost an important political fight Tuesday. A committee in the North Carolina House voted to strip provisions from a bill which would allow local brewers to sell more of their own product without going through a middle man.

It's a rare day that a polka song perfectly sums up a piece of legislation. Today is one of those days. If you're not humming "Roll Out The Barrel" just yet, you should be. That's as in barrels of beer. Although we're having a bit of fun with the topic, on tap is a big dollar showdown between brewers and distributors with each claiming they best represent North Carolina's beer drinkers.

It’s harder to make hand-made soap than you might think—there’s chemistry, calculations, and patience. One woman does the whole process from her tiny kitchen in Charlotte, using an ingredient that may seem…counter intuitive.

Something started happening in Charlotte a few years ago that continued to brew and bubble and is now reaching a head: beer. But not any beer- beer crafted, brewed, served and enjoyed right here in the Queen City. Every few months, new breweries are opening or moving into larger spaces.  Craft beer is taking off, creating a new culture in the process. We talk about how we got here and what's ahead in a special program recorded at Olde Mecklenburg Brewery.
