Zero Waste Initiatives Mecklenburg county officials recently announced that a controversial landfill won't be expanded and that they won't collaborate with a project aimed at taking some of the county's waste and burning it to create electricity. But we still create tons of trash in this region every day so conservation groups and the county waste department are looking at ways to reduce waste.
