A cell phone video has been released by the wife of Keith Lamont Scott before and after he was fatally shot by a Charlotte police officer earlier this week.
Rakeyia Scott saw police fatally shoot her husband and Friday, she released a more than two-minute video of the shooting. Police can be heard shouting at Scott to drop a gun as his wife pleads with police and her husband.
“Don’t shoot him, don’t shoot him, he has no weapon,” Rakeyia Scott said. “He has no weapon. Don’t shoot. Don’t shoot. Don’t shoot him. He didn’t do anything…he doesn’t have a gun…he has a TBI. He’s not going to do anything to you. He just took his medicine. Keith come out the car.”
In the video Rakia Scott told police that Scott had a traumatic brain injury and had just taken medication. The family said Scott was carrying a book but police said they recovered a gun. The video is jumpy and it’s not clear if there was a weapon present. The family and protesters are calling for the police video to be publicly released.
