UNC System Chancellors Receive Up To 19 Percent Raise

www.northcarolina.edu

Chancellors at a dozen UNC system schools are getting pay raises of between 8 and 19 percent.

UNC Charlotte Chancellor Philip Dubois received one of the biggest raises at $63,000.  His base salary is now $388,000. NC State’s Chancellor Randy Woodson received a $70,000 raise and UNC Chapel Hill’s Chancellor Carol Folt a $50,000 one.

The UNC Board of Governors made the decision on Friday in closed session and released the information after notifying chancellors over the weekend. The board approved updated salary ranges in April and says these raises will make it easier to attract and retain good leaders by boosting salaries so they’re more in line with what other chancellors across the country receive.

The board also updated salary rangesfor the system’s top job in April.  Former U.S. Education Secretary Margaret Spellings will receive a base salary of $775,000 when she begins in March. That’s $175,000 more than current president Tom Ross.

As for university employees and faculty, they received a $750 bonus this year, but no raises.

Lisa Worf traded the Midwest for Charlotte in 2006 to take a job at WFAE. She worked with public TV in Detroit and taught English in Austria before making her way to radio. Lisa graduated from University of Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in English.
