Unless you're on scholarship, about the only way to reduce the cost of going to college is to earn your bachelor's degree in less than four-years. UNC-Greensboro unveiled a program Monday to help students graduate in three years. It's called UNCG in 3. Robert Brown is dean for continual learning at UNC-Greensboro. "Overall, a family could save about $8,000 by doing continuous enrollment, but $8,000 in this environment is a significant savings. That's over 20 percent of a college education at UNCG." Students in the three-year program don't save any more money than students who earn a traditional bachelor's degree in three years. But Brown says students enrolled in the three-year program are assured that their classes will be available, and they will get enrollment priority. Incoming freshmen must have 12 credit hours to be eligible for the three-year bachelor's degree. The degree will be offered in 18 programs. They are Accounting, African-American Studies, Business Administration, Communications Studies, Economics, Elementary Education, English, Entrepreneurship, Finance, German, History, Information Systems and Operations Management, Political Science, Psychology, Religious Studies, Romance Languages and Russian. Brown says he believes Mount Olive College is the only other school in North Carolina to offer a three-year degree.
