People are getting assistance after suffering flooding from heavy rains that dumped feet of water in Cabarrus and Mecklenburg Counties. Governor Mike Easley today declared the two counties state disaster areas. Residents and businesses in areas hit with major flooding can apply for assistance. Efforts are also underway to determine whether those in need of help can qualify for certain low-interest federal loans. Also today, Mecklenburg County deemed all ground floor units of an east Charlotte apartment complex unsafe to live in after days of rain this week caused major flooding.
