Shoppers Take In Eastland One More (Last?) Time

Faded store signs. Boxed-up merchandise. Moving trucks. Quiet hallways. This is not how Eastland Mall used to look. After 35 years, the mall opened its doors this morning for what could be the final time. Despite looking run-down, the mall still received visits from its most loyal customers. Many just wanted to see the mall one last time. WFAE's Christina Austin spoke to a few of them. Their fondest memories include time spent on an ice-skating rink. "When I was a kid, I used to come skating a lot. I'd like to see them fix it up and reopen it," says Christopher Williams of Charlotte, although he doubts that will happen. Boxer Property of Houston bought the main portion of the mall last week for $2 million. Boxer President Andrew Segal told WFAE that the mall's previous owners failed to serve the community.
