Separating Students by Gender

This fall, Jefferson Elementary School in York County will experiment with segregating fifth-graders by gender. About 90 schools in South Carolina offer single-gender classrooms, according to state officials. Jefferson Principal Jane Wallace spoke with WFAE's Julie Rose about the reasons she thinks it makes sense to separate boys and girls in fifth grade:
