Political Experts Discuss Comey's Senate Testimony

James Comey

Thursday, June 8, 2017

Former FBI director James Comey will testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee about the Russia investigation and his intereactions with President Trump. Mike Collins and a panel of political experts preview Comey's appearance.

A month after his controversial firing, former FBI director James Comey goes in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee Thursday to give his side of the story in the investigation into Russia’s involvement in last year’s election, a probe that President Trump has called a “witch hunt.”

Since his ouster, there have been drips and drabs out of the White House and Comey's associates about the tense relationship between Comey and the president, who called Comey a “nut job” in an Oval Office conversation with Russian officials. Comey has said Trump asked him to hault the investigation into the president’s then-national security adviser, Michael Flynn.

The Comey firing and the Russia investigations have dogged the administration and threatened to derail its legislative agenda, from health care to tax reform.

Meanwhile, North Carolina is now 0-3 on the subject of race and politicsafter a Supreme Court order this week calling more than two-dozen legislative districts racial gerrymanders.

Three local political scientists join Mike Collins to discuss the Comey testimony.
