America’s energy policy remains one of the most hotly contested topics in the upcoming election. To some, Jack Gerard could be called the face of Big Oil. Mr. Gerard is President and CEO of the American Petroleum Institute and he says that North America has vast reserves of oil and natural gas that should be developed. He and other supporters of increased domestic production say that jobs would be created, the economy bolstered and we’d be less dependent on foreign oil. Critics counter that a petroleum based energy policy harms the environment and leads to questionable foreign policy decisions.
