Immigration Raid Nets 300+ Workers

The raid took place at the end of the morning shift at House of Raeford's Columbia Farms Plant in Greenville, South Carolina. US Attorney Walter Wilkins says authorities have been investigating hiring practices at the plant since the beginning of the year. And so far, 12 plant supervisors have been indicted on immigration violations. "A little over 94 percent of the employees that work there- it was determined that their names, social security numbers or alien registration numbers did not match the actual person who was working at the plant," he says. Wilkins says the raid netted less than half of the 777 employees with false documents. He says in general, such raids often result in companies and individuals facing criminal and civil prosecution.
