Friday News Roundup: HB2 Repeal Vote Passes in Legislature; No CMS Assignment Decision Yet; More

The North Carolina General Assembly voted to repeal HB2 on Thursday. A Charlotte high school student will not be allowed to graduate before being deported. CMS Board members still have no consensus on student assignment, and a Huntersville native puts UNC in the Final Four.  Those stories and more on the local news roundup with host Mike Collins and a panel of reporters.

On this edition of the local news roundup, it looks like HB2 is on its way out. The NCAA gave North Carolina a new deadline this week to make a move in repealing the law. That prompted a late night deal between lawmakers and Governor Cooper on a repeal of HB2, which was voted on and passed in the General Assembly Thursday. But it's not a full repeal. We'll talk more about what the bill says and what critics of the repeal have been saying.

A Charlotte high school student will not be deported after embezzling nearly $3,000 from a local Harris Teeter, but will still be leaving the country next month. A conversation about his future and whether he has a chance to come back to the U.S. after leaving.

Theschool board has not yet come to a decision about student assignment for CMS next year. We look at why the board is struggling to come to a consensus.

Charlotte's homicide rate is upand continues to rise. There have been 22 homicides in the Queen City already this year. We discuss how CMPD is responding.
