A new dragway near Lowe's Motor Speedway is ready for racing. But the project nearly didn't happen. Neighbors worried it would be too noisy and city officials rejected an initial proposal for the drag-racing strip. Speedway Motorsports CEO Bruton Smith reacted by threatening to take all of his racing business elsewhere, and Concord officials backtracked. WFAE's Julie Rose asked Concord Mayor Scott Padgett to explain that about-face that led to today's opening of the new dragway.
