On this edition of the local news roundup, Mecklenburg County Health Director Michael Plescia resignsafter months of turmoil in the department over the agency’s failure to notify nearly 200 women about abnormal pap smear results. We’ll hear what Plescia had to say about his resignation and more about his departure.
North Carolina had another ruling in the Supreme Court this week, with the decision that 28 legislative districts in the state are illegally drawn, with race as a predominant factor. Five of those districts are in Mecklenburg County. We’ll talk about the ruling and what will happen now to the districts affected.
Governor Roy Cooper is part of a growing list of governors around the country pledging to continue support for the Paris Climate Accord. What he said, as well as what local businesses are doing in continued support of the agreement.
The County Commission voted this weekto approve a proclamation making June Ramadan Month, but not without questions from one commissioner who thinks it’s “a bit close to government endorsing a religion.”
