Charlotte Talks Friday News Roundup

Clockwise from top left: Glenn Burkins, Tom Bullock, Shawn Flynn, Erik Spanberg

This week in local news, our homicide rate rises to 46 after multiple murders in one night this week.  The mayor’s race gains candidates at a forum on Tuesday.  South Carolina Republicans win a tight Congressional race. The  Whitewater Center is sued one year after the death of a rafter who was exposed to an amoeba at the Center.  Mike Collins and the roundup reporters fill us in on those stories and more.

On this edition of the local news roundup, Charlotte’s homicide rate continues to rise with more deaths this week, including three in one night on Tuesday. The number of homicides is now up to 46. We’ll talk about the latest murders and what the police chief has to say about the growing problem.

The Charlotte mayoral race appears to have gained some candidates, with a total of five Democrats now competing in the primary to face the one Republican (Kenny Smith). We’ll discuss an unusual mayoral forum that took place in the Queen City this week and what the candidates said.

Republican Ralph Norman won a tight race in South Carolina’s 5th District this week. We’ll talk about the effect that special election and other losses are having on Democrats.

And one year after a rafter at the US National Whitewater Center died of a brain-eating amoeba she contracted at the Center, a lawsuit has been filed against the Center in connection with her death. Why now, and what the suit alleges.

Mike Collins and our panel of reporters cover those stories and much more on the local news roundup.
