The U.S. Military says the effects of climate disruption are an “accelerant of instability” around the world. Weather extremes along with a lack of food, water and sea level rise can destabilize societies. This can lead to war. Brigadier General Stephen Cheney talks to host Mike Collins about how the military is preparing to deal with these potential threats to our national security.
On the next Charlotte Talks...
Climate change deniers are everywhere, including the halls of Congress and in statehouses around the country-- but not in the U.S. Military. They say the effects of climate disruption are an “accelerant of instability” around the world.
More frequent occurrences of extreme weather, along with a lack of food and water supply, and sea level rise can destabilize societies-- especially in countries where governments aren’t ready for these occurrences.
The way countries respond to these problems could potentially lead to conflicts, or even war.
Brigadier General Stephen Cheney is in Charlotte to speak to the World Affairs Council Charlotte, but first, joins host Mike Collins to talk about how the U.S. military is preparing to deal with these potential threats at the hands of climate change and what that means for both our national and global security.
