Changes Coming to CMS Enrollment Rules

Beginning next year, students enrolling in kindergarten must turn five by August 31st. October 16th has been the cut-off for kindergartners to turn five. CMS official Scott McCully says the new August 31st deadline is required by state law and will definitely affect class sizes. "For this year, if that change were made, that would impact 1,329 students," says McCully. "So there's quite a few students that could be impacted by this, and as our school district grows that will most likely impact quite a few more students, as well." Also beginning next year, CMS will require families to provide three separate documents to prove their residency. Previously only one document was necessary. McCully says the change arose from district controversy over student athletes living outside the boundaries of their school teams.
