Author Kate Sweeney brings death to life in her new book, “American Afterlife: Encounters in the Customs of Mourning.” Her book explores the world of mourning and loss through a collective portrait of Americans who find themselves personally involved with death. Long gone are the days of photographing the dead in their best attire, but now green burials are growing in popularity. How do Americans mourn? What customs do we exercise in times of grief? And, how have some practices evolved with time to be inclusive of social progression? We talk with Kate and a local professional about those questions and more.
