Event Description

Southern authors seem to write frequently about children who lose their way, lose someone or something important, or lose out on life’s opportunities. In her book “Thomas Wolfe and Lost Children in Southern Literature,” Paula Gallant Eckard traces the lost characters in contemporary Southern fiction back to “The Lost Boy” of Asheville’s favorite son Thomas Wolfe.

Eckard will talk about Wolfe and the lost child theme -- the impact of change and loss on children -- that pervades the work of contemporary Southern authors.
