Birthday Parties A Blessing For Homeless Children
Few events are as special in a child's life as a birthday party - the cake, the gifts, the anticipation. But when a family is worried about where the next meal will come from - or where to spend the night - birthday parties aren't high on the priority list.

There are more than 3,000 homeless children in Charlotte who live in shelters, doubled up in apartments with other families, or sometimes even in cars. Many of their birthdays would come and go without notice were it not for a local nonprofit called Birthday Blessings. WFAE's Julie Rose reports:

NC Makes A Move In The Beer Game
Last year wasn't great for beer, unless you brew it in small batches. U.S. beer sales were down 2 percent, according to the industry. But the craft segment of the beer market -those brewers that make less than 2 million barrels a year - grew by about 7 percent last year.

You might know some of these local labels: Carolina Blonde, Highland and Olde Mecklenburg. That last one is the only craft brewer, making and bottling beer right here in Charlotte - and it's actually quite new.

WFAE's Clay Whittaker reports.

Remembering Shcrissony
Sometimes in the news business it's easy to forget that life goes on after a tragic headline. Police clear away an accident or take down the crime scene tape, and most of us forget and move on. We rarely hear what happens next to the people involved. And it's too bad, because the aftermath of a tragedy is often where the most important lessons lie.

That's what WFAE's Julie Rose learned in a follow-up to one of those incidents.
