1. Is WFAE changing formats?
No. The news and information you currently hear on your radio isn’t changing.
2. Then, how can you play jazz?
HD Radio technology allows us to split our signal into different channels. In addition to the news/talk format, we’ll play mainstream jazz on the second channel and Triple-A music on the third channel.
3. How can I hear the jazz?
You’ll need to purchase an HD Radio or stream it online at wfae.org.
4. What is HD Radio?
Similar to the technology that allows TVs to offer multiple channels, HD Radio technology does the same for radio signals. It also provides better sound and less static.
5. How is HD Radio different from satellite radio?
The biggest difference is there’s no subscription fee for HD Radio. Once you have the HD Radio receiver you can listen to the radio like you do now, but with more choices.
6. Where can I buy an HD Radio?
Most electronics retailers such as Radio Shack, Best Buy sell them. Or you can go to wfae.org and click on the Amazon button to buy one. Prices range from $90-$600.
If you provide us your email address, we can send you a link for a $50 rebate that is valid until Sept. 30, 2008.
7. What about HD Radio for my car?
There are some after-market products you can purchase from electronics dealers such as Best Buy and Circuit City. Prices range from $100-$400. We hope HD Radio technology will become standard in cars in the next year or so.
8. I listen to 90.3 in Hickory or 106.1 in Laurinburg or 93.7 in Southern Pines. Can I listen to jazz on WFAE HD2?
