After 34 Years, Charlotte Rape Victim Thankful For Peace And Closure

  Thirty-four years later, Mindy Sypher can speak calmly about the worst day of her life.

That’s in part because so much time has passed, but mostly because the man who raped her is finally behind bars.

“It’s come full circle, with an end date,” said Sypher, who was 20 when she was attacked inside her home off Carmel Road. “I know that this person is going to pay for his crimes. I’m just glad he’s going away.”

'Ski Mask Rapist' Confesses To Six More Crimes

Jerry Brooks, 63, was sentenced to life on November 7, after pleading guilty to three counts of first-degree rape. He confessed to six other rapes in Charlotte.

A 34-year-old sexual assault case ended Tuesday. In 1979, Jerry Brooks raped at least eight women in Charlotte. He was scheduled to go to trial today but as part of a plea agreement, he pleaded guilty and received a life sentence.
