CMPD is investigating threats to two CMS schools that police believe were made by students. A 14-year-old female student at Southwest Middle School in Steele Creek was arrested in connection with a threat found on the social media site Snapchat. This comes two weeks after a 19-year-old shot and killed 17 students and teachers at a Florida high school. Assistant Chief Vicki Foster said that’s part of the reason officers are hyper-aware.

Residents on the North Carolina coast are bracing themselves for Hurricane Matthew, which is expected to move up the east coast and hit the Carolinas on Friday night, though gusty winds and rain bands could begin as early as Friday morning.

The 14-year-old accused of shooting and killing his father, then driving to Townville Elementary School and wounding two students and a teacher, has been charged as a juvenile with murder and three counts of attempted murder.

Similar events have been popping up across the country, run by martial arts gyms, firearms training centers, and even schools, in the wake of Sandy Hook.
