So South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is headed to New York, to represent the U.S. at the United Nations. Her appointment by president-elect Donald Trump was a bit of a surprise, given that she hasn't been a big Trump supporter.

South Carolina is definitively Hillary Country. Clinton won the Democratic primary there over the weekend. And did so by easily defeating Senator Bernie Sanders. Normally, when the Republican presidential campaigns head to the warmer weather of South Carolina, a lot of the race has been sorted. Not this year.

Now that the New Hampshire Primary is a done deal, the political circus is pulling up stakes and heading to South Carolina. First up, the Republican presidential hopefuls. They’ll make at least 14 stops across the state.

Humane Society rescues 19 dogs from puppy mill

The Humane Society of Charlotte says it rescued 19 breeding dogs early Saturday from a puppy mill in western North Carolina.  The society said its emergency response team found a breeding operation at the site, with 19 Maltese and Maltese mix dogs between 4 and 10 years old.

Officials said the dogs had mouth, eye and skin problems resulting from a lack of veterinary care. They will be treated then sent to foster homes. 

SC Unemployment Agency headed for big change

Major changes are in store for the South Carolina state agency responsible for writing unemployment checks. Governor Mark Sanford will sign a measure tomorrow morning removing the commission's top leaders and placing the entire agency under his own control.
