'Solace' For Afghani Kids In Lake Norman

Twelve-year-old Menhajuldin (Menhaj) Shadab will take back photos of his time in Lake Norman, North Carolina to Kabul, Afghanistan.

This week, about 20 kids from Afghanistan are flying back home after spending six weeks in the Lake Norman area. They were here to get medical treatment they otherwise would not have received. Some have sustained war wounds from roadside bombs and others suffer from chronic illness. While here, the kids stay with host families.

A New 'Foundation' For N.C. Politics?

Here's a name you'll probably get used to while Governor Pat McCrory is in office: The Foundation for North Carolina. It's a nonprofit but not in the traditional sense. It's a political group with close ties to McCrory that was created after his election.

After Much Debate, Council Awards Carolina Theatre To Foundation

Foundation for the Carolinas will renovate the theater, and build a lobby and office tower on the site.

The City Council decided the fate of the Carolina Theatre Monday night, awarding it to the non-profit Foundation for the Carolinas for $1, over a competing, half-million dollar bid. The historic venue has fallen into disrepair since closing in the 1970s, but its sits on prime Uptown real estate.
