Math, Sports And 'Bracketology'

Math is a subject that- many of us could agree - is anything but fascinating, or “cool” or easy to understand. But one Davidson College professor is working to turn around all those math haters. Tim Chartier made national news early this month for his work in “bracketology,” as in NCAA basketball championship brackets. His formula has had a high rate of success in picking winners and losers in the tournament. Now that we’re almost to the championship round of the NCAA tournament, we’ll join this real life Math Ambassador (yes, it’s a real thing) to talk about bracketology, about his new book Math Bytes, and his wide ranging work in trying to make math accessible, understandable, and even fun for everyone.

Commentary: March Madness Has Perfect Timing

It seems almost inappropriate that March Madness take center stage while the world looks for an airplane and the Ukraine is missing part of herself.  According to the American calendar, March Madness has begun.  Allow me to point out that March Madness has arrived this year at just the right moment.
