We now bring you a story of possible election fraud in North Carolina. The setting, the city of Lumberton, south of Fayetteville. The scheme? Allegedly buying votes. The currency? Well, investigators aren’t saying but it may have something to do with breakfast.

A lobbyist is sleeping with a politician. Does this count as a gift under state law? An act of goodwill? A way to gain access? No this isn’t a political joke, at least not to the North Carolina State Ethics Commission. They were asked these very questions and recently ruled consensual sex between politicians and lobbyists is A-OK.

By now you may have heard Thom Tillis is running for U.S. Senate. With the short legislative session beginning in Raleigh today, he also returns to his political day job, Speaker of the House. This sets up an interesting ethical question.
