Judge Will Rule On Control Of Charlotte Airport Next Week

The Charlotte airport commission has been meeting, since a state law formed it last year, but it has no power, while the lawsuit runs its course.

The State of North Carolina faced off against the City of Charlotte in court today, once again, about who should control Charlotte-Douglas airport. A decision in the more-than-a-year-long case is imminent.

Shoddy Paperwork At Charlotte-Douglas, New Reports Say

Charlotte-Douglas airport’s calling card has long been low cost for airlines. CLT is the cheapest of the nation’s 25 largest airports for airlines to drop or collect passengers.  The airport moves more passengers using less space than any other, and employs less than half the average number of employees. But, according to reports released today, that thriftiness is creating its own costs: mishandled contracts and payments from a lack of oversight.

Jerry Orr To Retire, Calls For End To Charlotte Airport Battle

The city’s long-time, recently-ousted aviation director, Jerry Orr, is relinquishing all authority over Charlotte Douglas airport. Orr announced last night he is retiring as executive director of the Charlotte Airport Commission, to help extinguish the lengthy legal battle between city and state lawmakers over who will control Charlotte’s airport.

Airport Commission To Discuss Orr's Role

The usual holiday bustle is picking up at Charlotte Douglas, but behind the scenes a power struggle between city and state lawmakers continues. A commission created by the state to run the airport meets for the second time tonight. It can’t do much yet, except self-destruct.

A judge has kept Charlotte Douglas in the hands of the city council and away from the commission, while a lawsuit makes its way through court.

City Says Airport Books Inaccurate, Incomplete

An audit by the city of Charlotte has turned up a number of missing, incomplete or inaccurate documents on the airport's books that may pose a problem for federal aviation authorities. The findings are part of a series of ongoing audits into airport operations spurred by the city's fight to keep control of Charlotte Douglas International.

Charlotte Airport Battle Drags On As FAA Deliberates

Former Charlotte Mayor Richard Vinroot is the attorney representing former airport director Jerry Orr and the embattled commission created by state lawmakers to run the airport.

Federal regulators are refusing to deal directly with former Charlotte airport director Jerry Orr and the commission state lawmakers appointed him to lead. That's according to the commission's attorney, Richard Vinroot, who says the FAA has also made clear that its decision regarding the airport's governance will not be "expedited."

Airport Commission Attorney: City's Arguments 'Utterly Baseless'

An attorney for backers of a regional commission to run Charlotte Douglas International Airport says the city's legal arguments against a transfer are "utterly baseless," because there is no transfer. Rather, Richard Vinroot says airport would remain the city's property and the new commission to operate it would be an agency of the city.
