Auto Insurance Bill To Reform Industry Fails House

House Bill 265 would have allowed insurance companies to file for an increase or decrease in auto insurance rates of seven percent.

The House Insurance Committee voted down a bill Tuesday that would have changed how the auto insurance industry makes changes to auto premiums. Currently, auto insurance companies are represented by an agency – the North Carolina Rate Bureau – that files for rate increases on behalf of more than 160 companies each year.

MetLife To Bring 2,600 Jobs To Charlotte And Cary

In what’s billed as the biggest jobs announcement in state history, Gov. Pat McCrory Thursday announced the arrival of 2,600 jobs with insurance giant MetLife, with half coming to Charlotte.

MetLife, America’s largest life insurer, would add jobs in Cary and Charlotte. MetLife, America’s largest life insurer, would add jobs in Charlotte and Cary by the end of 2015 in what will be a $125.5 million investment.

Hail Breaks Loose In Name Of Insurance Research

Hail causes about $1 billion in damage to U.S. property and crops each year. Insurers would like to minimize those losses. That's where the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety comes in. On Wednesday morning, the Institute created a full-scale hailstorm inside its laboratory in Richburg, South Carolina – about an hour from Charlotte. WFAE's Julie Rose sent this report:
