NC Medicaid Providers Say New Payment System Is Improving

Some doctors in North Carolina still haven't gotten paid for Medicaid services five months after the state rolled out a new system for Medicaid providers, called NC Tracks. But the system is improving, according to a legislative oversight committee that met Monday.

Audit Finds N.C. Medicaid Program Is Wasting Money

An independent audit found North Carolina's Medicaid program has been horribly managed in terms of administrative costs and budgeting.  State Auditor Beth Wood released the report Thursday, which examined how the Department of Health and Human Services has overseen Medicaid the last three years.

Let's start with some perspective on just how big the state's Medicaid program is. More than 1.5 million North Carolinians use it, and it costs the state about $36 million a day.

State Gives MeckLINK Another Chance

  Mecklenburg County will have another chance to prove it’s ready to take over more than $200 million in Medicaid funds for mental health services.

The county spent the last two years and $3 million  preparing its agency MeckLINK to handle mental health, substance abuse, and disability services, as part of a statewide change to how Medicaid funds for those services are dispersed.

Mecklenburg Will Sue State Over MeckLINK

Mecklenburg County will continue its fight to reinstate its mental health service agency, MeckLINK, as the overseer of hundreds of millions of dollars in Medicaid funds. In a last ditch effort, county commissioners unanimously voted to take their case to court.

Despite Decision, MeckLINK Proceeds As Normal

Mecklenburg County officials learned last week they will not get hundreds of millions of dollars in Medicaid funds to administer mental health, disability, and substance abuse services. But, the county is proceeding as if will get the money, anyway, despite the state’s decision to reassign those funds to an outside organization.
