City Update With Charlotte's Mayor And City Manager

It has been a little over a month since former Charlotte mayor Patrick Cannon resigned after his arrest on federal corruption charges; he still hasn’t been indicted. Since then, we've been learning more about accusations of a pay-to-play scheme involving taxi companies and the airport. We have a new mayor, Dan Clodfelter who has said that "stability" is his highest priority for the city. The city has opened its books in the ongoing federal investigation into Cannon. Fights over control of the airport continue. And it's budget time. There's a lot going on in Charlotte at a time when the city tries to re-earn the public and the business community's trust.

Jeff Jackson Replaces Clodfelter In The State Senate

Jeff Jackson was elected as state senator for North Carolina District 37 by Democratic Party leaders who live in the district. Jackson will replace Dan Clodfelter, who resigned on April 8 to become mayor of Charlotte.

Democrats Will Fill Clodfelter's Senate Seat In Special Election

There are four candidates running: ADA Jeff Jackson, former CMS board member Amelia Stinson-Wesley, former Charlotte city council member Billy Maddalon and east Charlotte activist Darrell Bonapart.

When Dan Clodfelter was appointed mayor of Charlotte last month, he resigned from his position as state senator. This Saturday, 50 Democratic Party officials will decide who will fill his seat.

There are four candidates in the running: assistant district attorney Jeff Jackson, former Charlotte Mecklenburg School board member Amelia Stinson-Wesley, former Charlotte city council member Billy Maddalon and east Charlotte activist Darrell Bonapart.

They all participated in a public forum Tuesday night at the Asian Library near uptown.

Council Approves Purchase Of Body Cameras For CMPD Officers

 Charlotte police officers will be adding another piece of equipment to their uniforms: body cameras.

Charlotte city council members voted to allow CMPD to purchase new body cameras for some of its officers.

James Mitchell Withdraws From 12th Congressional District Race

James Mitchell and supporters held yard signs at a special city council meeting on April 7 announcing the selection of Dan Clodfelter as the new mayor of Charlotte following Patrick Cannon's resignation. He was being considered for the position. He announced he is no longer running for congress on April 14.

There was the pledge of allegiance, an oath of office and prayer…more or less the standard affair.  Of course how Clodfelter became mayor was anything but. WFAE's Tom Bullock sat down with Charlotte's new mayor just after the ceremony.
