A former South Carolina Highway Patrol officer was arrested on Wednesday. The trooper was charged with assault for shooting at a man four times during a routine traffic stop.

The man was pulled over in front of a gas station in Columbia, South Carolina earlier this month for not wearing his seatbelt.

A three-minute dash-cam video of the shooting was released by prosecutors late Wednesday night.


Charlotte Fire Department captain Charlie Morris has resigned after admitting to stealing prescription drugs from a patient last week.


Federal Sex Trafficking Case To Begin In Charlotte

 A large sex-trafficking case goes to trial this week. Federal prosecutors say a Charlotte man ran a prostitution ring that involved at least a dozen girls between the ages of 16 and 25. The girls didn’t walk the streets. Instead, prosecutors say they were marketed through the web site Backpage.com.


Doctor, Teacher Charged With Prescription Fraud

A Rowan County doctor and his wife turned themselves in Wednesday morning after being indicted in connection with a scheme to fraudulently obtain the prescription pain killer hydrocodone. Overall, police have charged eight people, most of whom are teachers or teacher assistants.

The family of Brandon Yam, the man who was shot in the head by a stray bullet on the Fourth of July, says he may be released from the hospital this week.

Family members are asking for any information that will help them identify the kind of bullet that struck him.


Angelo Smith Arrives In Charlotte, Held By CMPD

Angelo Grayson Smith Jr., the boyfriend of missing teacher Bianca Tanner and the last one to see her before she disappeared, arrived at Charlotte-Mecklenburg police headquarters early Tuesday and was questioned by detectives, authorities say.

Smith will be taken to the Mecklenburg County Jail, charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to police.

A civil lawsuit against CMPD officer Randall Kerrick is on hold for sixty days while his criminal trial proceeds. U.S. District Court Judge Graham Mullen made that decision Tuesday in response to a request by the city of Charlotte. The civil suit was filed by the family of 24-year-old Jonathan Ferrell who was fatally shot ten times by Kerrick in September. Ferrell was unarmed.

The man accused of killing a Vietnam War veteran and grandfather of eight after an assault at a Rock Hill restaurant over the weekend lowered his head in court, cried and apologized to the dead man’s family, swearing he “did not mean for this to happen the way it did.”

The Kilah Davenport Child Protection Act passed the U.S. Senate unanimously on Wednesday night. It's a bill that asks Attorney General Eric Holder to issue a state-by-state report on child abuse prevention laws within 6 months. The goal is to get states to increase punishment for child abuse offenders.

Nine People Indicted In Kidnapping Of Wake Forest Man

All eight suspects involved in the kidnapping of a man from his home near Raleigh and taken to Atlanta are now in custody after being indicted by a grand jury on federal kidnapping charges.  

FBI agents say the victim was held hostage for five days in hopes that his daughter would help an inmate that she prosecuted.
