NC Republican Legislators Likely To Get Their Congressional Wish

With all the attention on the presidential and gubernatorial contests in North Carolina, you’d think there’s only one or two shows in town for this year’s election —but there are many other elections that will appear on voters’ ballots this fall.

Over the next few posts, I’ll be covering different races that are trying to command the electorate’s attention.  First, we’ll start with North Carolina’s 13 congressional districts.

Political Roundup: 8th, 9th District Races Gear Up In Debates

The Charlotte area was busy with congressional debates this week. In the 8th district, incumbent Democratic Congress Larry Kissell faced with his Republican challenger, Richard Husdon.

And in the 9th District, Republican Rich Pittenger and Democrat Jennifer Roberts debated at a Charlotte Chamber of Commerce event. They are running to replace retiring 9th District Republican Congresswoman Sue Myric.

Pittenger, Roberts Differ On Health Care, Transportation

The two candidates who aim to represent North Carolina’s 9th District Congressional seat held their first debate Wednesday. Republican Robert Pittenger and Democrat Jennifer Roberts are running to fill the open seat created by the retirement of Republican Sue Myrick.

Pittenger is a former three-term state senator, and Roberts is finishing her fourth term as a Mecklenburg County Commissioner. A small crowd turned out at the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce to watch the debate.
