Obama Issues 19 Executive Actions To Help Veterans

President Obama announced he will sign 19 executive actions at the American Legion national convention in Charlotte.

As expected, President Barack Obama addressed problems in the Department of Veterans Affairs and a number of other issues concerning care for veterans.

He also addressed foreign policy. The president reiterated he will not send soldiers and marines back to Iraq to fight extremists known as the Islamic State.

"American combat troops will not be returning to fight in Iraq. We’ll not allow the United State to be dragged back into another ground war in Iraq. Because ultimately it is up to the Iraqis to bridge their differences and secure themselves."

President Obama Announces Executive Actions To Fix VA Hospitals

President Barack Obama says the new veteran's health law will help fix the VA system.

President Barack Obama was in Charlotte today to introduce the new Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert McDonald and to announce that he will sign 19 new executive actions to help veterans. He spoke to a packed hall of veterans with the American Legion at the Charlotte Convention Center during their national conference.

Obama Promises Retaliation Against ISIL For Slain American Journalist

President Barack Obama visited Charlotte today to speak at the American Legion’s annual national convention. The president justified air strikes in Iraq against the group ISIL, which has taken over large territories of the country.

Veterans Air Grievances About VA During Town Hall

The American Legion was one of the first veterans groups to call for the resignation of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki after an inspector general report this year found that veterans were waiting months to get an appointment.

On Tuesday, President Barack Obama will be speaking at the Charlotte Convention Center to a crowd of veterans attending the Legion’s national conference. His remarks will be followed by a speech by the new V.A. Secretary Robert McDonald. He replaced Shinseki after he resigned earlier this year.

And the V.A. is on the minds of many veterans attending the conference. Monday night, about two dozen veterans participated in a town hall meeting to air their grievances and share their experiences with the V.A. system.

But the president seemed to acknowledge in his remarks that he does recognize the coming mid-term election year, and is willing to confront what should be a more challenging year than he faced in 2013.

Obama Focuses On Economy In NC State Speech

RALEIGH President Barack Obama is embracing a do-it-yourself approach to reviving the nation’s economy, saying Wednesday at N.C. State University that he wants to see the recovery accelerate.

“This has to be a year of action,” Obama told a crowd of students, Democratic Party officials and invited guests. “Where I can act on my own without Congress I’m going to do so. And today I’m here to act.”

Playoff day in Charlotte as Panthers host 49ers

It’s game day in Charlotte. The Carolina Panthers host their first home playoff game in 5 years Sunday afternoon at Bank of America stadium – facing the San Francisco 49ers at 1 o’clock.  The Panthers won their meeting in Week 10 of the season at San Francisco, a low-scoring game that ended 10 to 9.  After last week off, the Panthers are 12-4 and have won six of their last seven games. The 49ers also are 12-4. The stakes today are high: The winner goes to the NFC Championship game against Seattle. The Seahawks beat the New Orleans Saints yesterday, 23 to 15.
