Airport Advisory Committee Gets Active In Authority Debate

Foxx Boots Dorsch From Airport Advisory Committee

The chairman of the Charlotte Airport Advisory Committee has been ousted on the recommendation of the majority of the 11-member board. 

Shawn Dorsch was grilled by the city council for 90 minutes Monday night about his behind-the-scenes role in supporting a legislative push to strip the airport from the city’s control.

Charlotte Airport Advisory Committee Chairman Shawn Dorsch took 90 minutes of questions and sharp criticism from the city council Monday, but declined to answer most queries regarding his role in the controversy over control of Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

 The Charlotte City Council is threatening to remove the chairman of its Airport Advisory Committee for encouraging lawmakers and commissioners in surrounding counties to support a measure that would strip the airport from the city's control.

Airport Board OKs $35 Million Fund To Buy Neighborhood

The Charlotte airport plans to buy out a neighborhood less than a mile south of its newest runway. There are almost 70 homes there, and the airport advisory committee agreed Thursday to budget $35 million to buy those properties.
