President George Washington called Charlotte, a "trifling place" during his visit to the city in 1791. But it's certainly changed since then. WFAE's Tasnim Shamma explores the ins-and-outs of Charlotte in this podcast.Subscribe: Use iTunes Use Another Player RSS

Who Are Charlotte's Celebrities?

One indicator of how well you've settled into a place is gaining a sense of the city's "celebrity" culture. Admittedly, I'm nowhere close. So I need your help ...

I'm working on a list of local celebrities that newcomers to Charlotte should be familiar with (in case you run into them on the street!). Here's what I have so far:

  1. Michael Jordan (NBA legend and Charlotte Bobcats owner)
  2. Mandy Patinkin (The Princess Bride and Homeland star)
  3. Ric Flair (Professional Wrestler)
  4. Dale Earnhardt Jr. (NASCAR driver)
  5. Rielle Hunter (remember Senator John Edwards?)
  6. Emily Maynard (The Bachelorette
  7. Paula Broadwell (General Petraeus' biographer ... and special friend)
  8. Angie Harmon (Rizzoli & Isles actress)
