WFAE Talks No Nonsense Nurturing (Again), Project LIFT, Tax Deductible Political Donations

WFAE

Lisa Worf first reported in November on a new teaching method called No Nonsense Nurturing that's being utilized at Project LIFT schools in CMS. This week, No Nonsense Nurturing became the subject of intense national attention after NPR aired a version of Lisa's story on Weekend Edition Sunday. Lisa, Greg, and Tom discuss the teaching method and some of the shoddy reporting by other media outlets that followed up on her story.

Speaking of Project LIFT, it's board this week had its only public meeting of the year. Lisa covered the meeting and will tell us about it. Plus, Tom discusses his story on tax-deductible donations to non-profit political groups.

Greg Collard served as news director from 2008 to 2023. He served as WFAE's executive editor in 2023. He came to WFAE from West Virginia Public Broadcasting. In his eight years there, Greg had roles as a reporter, editor and producer. He was the executive producer of a television news magazine and news director for radio and television when he decided to head south for Charlotte.
Lisa Worf traded the Midwest for Charlotte in 2006 to take a job at WFAE. She worked with public TV in Detroit and taught English in Austria before making her way to radio. Lisa graduated from University of Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in English.
Tom Bullock decided to trade the khaki clad masses and traffic of Washington DC for Charlotte in 2014. Before joining WFAE, Tom spent 15 years working for NPR. Over that time he served as everything from an intern to senior producer of NPR’s Election Unit. Tom also spent five years as the senior producer of NPR’s Foreign Desk where he produced and reported from Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Haiti, Egypt, Libya, Lebanon among others. Tom is looking forward to finally convincing his young daughter, Charlotte, that her new hometown was not, in fact, named after her.
