United Way of the Central Carolinas Extending Campaign

United Way of the Central Carolinas is extending its annual campaign after falling $20 million short of last year's total. The organization has raised about $25 million since it kicked off its campaign early September. Last year at this time, the agency ended its campaign with $45 million worth of donations. United Way says many companies delayed the beginning of their workplace campaigns and are still in the midst of raising money. About 30 of the agency's top 100 contributors have wrapped up their drives. United Way which acts as a clearing house for area non-profits has had to deal with the the challenge of raising money in a slow economy. But it's also had to contend with outrage over the salary and benefits the board gave to former CEO Gloria Pace King. United Way says this year's campaign will be a success if it reaches $30 million. The organization expects to announce the campaign's total early next year.
