Union County Leaders to Discuss 5,000-acre Business Park

A group called Union County Partnership for Progress has been studying the idea for about two years. Maurice Ewing is the group's CEO. He says the purpose of Wednesday's forum is to get the public involved in the discussion. "There are a lot of very capable, intelligent and powerful people that have a substantial interest in this project. The meeting is to get our initiative into the public domain to extract some public opinion and just to share with the general public what we're trying to accomplish." Ewing says the park would be in eastern Union County, primarily on existing farmland. He says the park would require multiple public and private partnerships and the cooperation of many landowners, but that he doesn't envision the use of eminent domain. Ewing wouldn't say much else. He says he wants to wait until after Wednesday's forum. The event gets underway at 10 a.m. at Wingate's LaVerne Hall conference center.
