Two teenagers are now charged in the fatal shooting of a woman in east Charlotte on Tuesday, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Three people have now been charged in the shooting death of 36-year-old Maria Echeverria de Gomez. CMPD announced last night and early this morning that it has arrested 17-year-old A’vone Williams and an unnamed 15-year-old male. On Wednesday, 19-year-old Antonio Shine was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. All three are charged with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in the attack on Echeverria de Gomez.
CMPD Chief Kerr Putney said the quick arrest of Shine was thanks in large part to tips from Latino residents of the Vista Villa Apartments where the killing occurred.
"Everybody talks about, you know, blacks and Latinos trust us less," Putney said. "We see that in aggregate surveys. We haven’t had any recently, but I’ll tell you this — the witnesses, many of whom were Latino, gave us information to do what we needed to do."
Putney also said that the police department does not ask people for their immigration status.
