Three Charged After Lighting American Flag On Fire

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department

Three protesters were arrested yesterday in Charlotte after, police say, they poured lighter fuel on an American flag and set it on fire.

According to CMPD, they were part of a small group gathered for May Day protests in Uptown. Charlotte Fire and CMPD’s arson detectives responded to the scene.

Landon Rice, VanaMary Isaac and Dhruv Pathak have all been charged with Carelessness with Fire and Injury to Real Property. CMPD says that property is not the flag, but the sidewalk.

The police report says the fire caused $500 in damage to the sidewalk in front of CMPD headquarters, which was an estimate of the cost to pressure wash and clean the sidewalk.
